A PLUS SIZE GIRLS GUIDE TO SPRING STYLE*

Hey curvy girls all over the world,

After going through my first polar vortex, I am in desperate need of some long sunny days and warm weather. So thank God, winter is over and spring has arrived. Each year, when spring rolls around, I like to spend my days flipping through magazines and cutting out editorial pictures of possible outfit ideas. Much like fall, spring is one of those seasons where you can really dress to impress and there are a bevy of options. I am completely obsessed with this year’s trends and between what I’ve seen on the runways and the looks I’ve seen in my spring magazine issues, I feel equipped with enough style inspiration to create my own stylish on trend looks.

When it comes to shopping I like to shop everywhere. Yes, I have my designated spots where I know I am going to find exactly what I’m looking for but I like to try places that I normally don’t shop at. I like to think of myself as the real deal shopper because I believe style has no size and that you can find stylish clothes, especially plus size clothes anywhere, you just have to be willing to hunt for it.

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to visit the Sears Design Studio in New York. Initially, I was intrigued to visit because I actually like being able to chat with designers a brands marketing team about their thought process. I was asked to come to the studio to checkout their latest plus size designs for spring 2014 and 2015. Now, Ii’ve been sworn to secrecy about their 2015 collection but I can totally spill the beans on the spring collection and a little bit about their whole thought and design process.

To be honest, I don’t shop at Sears for my fashion needs but I was open to be persuaded and hoping that I could add a new shopping spot to my list. I sat down with two members from Sears head design team for plus sizes to talk about what their spring 2014 inspiration was for plus size women. They look at runway trends and magazine editorials for inspiration to come up with their plus size design ideas.

Sears currently has 3 dedicated plus size brands which are Beverly Drive, Laura Scott, and Bongo Plus which is their junior plus size brand. The designers talked me through their current spring trends., which focused on colors and prints. Aqua blues, bright corals, stripes, and abstract prints are key spring 2014 trends for the Sears plus size woman.

After spending the day with the design team, I decided to go and checkout Sears website and then my local store. While shopping I found that Bongo Plus and Beverly Drive had quite a few stylish pieces in store. Online, there were more options than there was in the store.

Also, Sears has a new program called Shop Your Way Rewards where you can curate your own catalog of fashion from Sears and its sister brands. You can save it, share it, and of course shop it. You can also receive special discounts on some of the styles.
