It’s no secret that Mo’Nique has been getting busy in the gym but it has been awhile since we’ve actually seen her out and about. Today, the Queen of Comedy popped up at Hot 97’s morning show displaying a new fit and healthy body. According to Mo’Nique she is now about 216 pounds and has a goal of getting down to about 200-190 pounds. Mo’Nique shard with the morning show that she is 3 years in to getting healthy and has completely changed her lifestyle.
Based on her interview she sounds as if she is still down with embracing your plus size body, but being healthy is what is of importance to her. She said she had to step back and look at herself and realized that what she was doing to her body wasn’t going to allow her to be there for her children or her grand children. She also said in getting healthy she wanted other women to see that you don’t need lipo suction, lap bands, or any pill to lose weight. In her own words, “If you put in the work, you will see it come off”
A lot of our plus size celebrities go under fire whenever they mention losing weight. Crystal Renn and Jennifer Hudson have both received their fair share of weightloss ridicule. I am sure Mo’Nique will be no different. However, when it comes to weight, I always say its a personal thing. You have to do and live the way that’s right for you. No one can dictate to you how much should weigh or what size you should be but your doctor. The most important thing you can do is be honest with yourself about your health and your life style and make changes accordingly.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be healthier. I love the fact that she still celebrates her curves albeit in a slimmer, more healthy body.
Promoting being healthy is the greatest thing ever! But I don’t like how we associate “thinness” or “skinny” with healthy. It not only promotes a distorted idea of body image but it also allows thinner people to not take their health seriously because they assume if they’re thin they can eat anything. Great health comes in all forms not just in the form of a size six or a size two.Promoting HAES “Health at every size” is key to a successful, overall nation. No one feels pressured, alienated or forced, or discriminated against. Everyone is working together towards the game goal but with a different outcome for each person.
