STYLE JOURNEY: PROUD TO BE A STYLISH MOM

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
I often get asked a lot if I really wear heels and dress up when I’m with my child. The God honest truth is YES. I remember when I found out that I was pregnant, saying to myself, I will not be one of those mom’s who let themselves go and wear leggings and sweat pants all the time.

Not that there is anything wrong with that but it’s not what I wanted to look like. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have days where I do throw on leggings and an over sized top. However, it’s important for me not to lose who I am. I think as women we often forget about ourselves and needs when we become mom’s. Your whole life is now about your children.

Sometimes, we have to take time for ourselves and not only do things that make us happy but put a little effort into our own appearance. Everyday won’t be a dress up kind of day but you don’t want to get yourself stuck in a rut to a point of no return. I know that every mom is different and sometimes after having a baby our styles change. If you’re a mom of more than one child then maybe instead of sneakers and sweats when you’re with your children, opt for a pair of cute flats and well fitted jeans.

When my son was a baby I wore flats all the time but made sure I wore clothes that fit my new baby making body that made me look put together. Now, that he’s a toddler, I mix it up. When I take him to school in the mornings, I wear heels, but if we are going to the park after school I whip out my flats in a heartbeat.
Sometimes If I know I’m going to have a busy hectic day, putting on an outfit that makes me feel confident helps me get through the day. I would love to chat more about style and being a mom. I will save that for a later post. Feel free to email me any questions you may have or tips for other plus size moms.

I hate to keep repeating it but to all my plus size mommy’s out there make sure you take time for yourselves .

Girl bye!! You are a stylish mom indeed!! I love that you brought this up! You are so right! We tend to forget about ourselves quite a bit.

After having my son (7 years ago), I struggled with my style. What I used to wear no longer fit, and I wasn’t confident enough to wear the things that I wanted to wear. After much deliberation and many a dressing room… I found my niche, and I’m now comfortable & stylish.

I am the first one to rock heels, but I’m a sneakers/gymshoe girl at heart. I love my Jordan’s, Nikes and AirForce 1’s. When I do wear them, I wear them with style (at least I like to think so, lol).

When I first came across your blog I assumed you were a single girl with no ties, you always looked great and you update your blog regularly, how do you manage everything with a young son too. Keep doing what you’re doing it suits you. You rock and inspire

Thanks so much for posting this! You look great and your little guy is so handsome.

I am currently working on finding my mom style. I would love to see more posts on this topic. My kids are two and four. They have tons of energy and I need clothes that I can move in but still look nice. (I wear my skechers a lot because my son is liable to run off at any moment and I may need to give chase.)

I’ve been reading your blog and others and trying to work with accessorizing and finding ways to look pulled together even while being casual. I’ve gotten some good tips and found some great stores. so far. Thanks for being a great resource!

My fellow fab and super stylish mom, you look fantastic! I wouldn’t have considered pairing an animal print skirt with a neon top but you’ve inspired me. This post speaks volumes top any mom. One thing my sister who us happily married with 2 sons always tells me is never lose sight of myself. I’ve always loved fashion. I just try to make it appropriate for my tween son.

well said! I am not a mum (yet) so I cannot say by experience but I do recognise the importance of look after ourslef.
Her ein my country, many, many women forget about themselves as soon as they get married, even worst when they have kids.
nowadays, with low cost fashion, there are no excuse to dress nice. but I guess its more about priorities in life: they forget to be women and all attentions goes to the kid.

I love that you brought this topic up! It’s hard to be a stylish mom when your kids are little. If you dress up you can end up with cookiehands or snot at knee hight (if you know what I mean). So yeah, when my kids were little I was guilty at being a sloppy mom now and then. The days when I had to leave the house to go to work I dressed up and that was such a good feeling. Just to be yourself and go out and talk to grownups!! Now I dress up every day because each day is a party!

By the way: you look super!

Yes to this post!! After my son was born, my sense of style and wanting to even try to be stylish left and was gone for years. It wasn’t until I started my blog that I decided it was time to get back to me and dressing like I cared about myself. I don’t wear heels all the time (my back/knees won’t allow it) but even when I wear flats or sneakers I am make sure I am cute and stylish in my own way. I still have days when I throw on leggings a over sized shirt and flip flops or sneakers and head out, but those days are as often as they used to be.

Now if I can just take my behind to my hair stylist more often my husband would be grateful, LOL!! He loves my hair natural and I try to make sure it’s nice, neat and cute, but he still likes when I get it done!!

HIGH FIVE to all the Fabulous Moms!!

Yes, I thought I was the only mom out here feeling this way. I have a two year old son and I am also a stay-at-home Mom. I admit I have lost myself in my family and I never inteneded too, I honestly don’t think any real mom does but it happens. I also cannot wear heels with my two year old because he is extremely active so sneakers and flats are on while I’m out with him. it has just been challenging to get myself back on track but I am getting there one day at a time. There is still hope and regardless my husband loves me unconditionally. Alissa you are also tall, any suggestions for a curvy beautie who is 4’11?

While, I don’t have children, this was a great post. As someone mentioned I assumed you had no ties as well. Looks are definitly deceiving.

You do a great job of balancing your life and it is greatly appreciated you share some of your time with us.

In the future when I have children I hope to remember not to lose myself and remember to look fancy at will even with a stroller and diaper bag.
