STYLE JOURNEY: THE B-SIDE

Hey curvy girls all over the world,

One of my personal pet peeves is when people try to put you into a box and limit who you are and what you can do. The truth is, there are different sides to me as a person and the same goes for my personal style. While my look of choice is classic and sophisticated that doesn’t mean that I don’t love a good edgy look or a girly tomboy look either. People always think they can peg who you are and what you like and sometimes their choices are completely off. What most of you don’t know about me is that I love hip hop music. I grew up on it and to this day in my 30’s I still blast my 90’s hip hop. Along with loving hip hop music, I love hip hop style. One of personal favorite hip hop style influence’s was Lauren Hill. I loved how Lauren could easily throw on a fitted with her fro peeking out from under it, and then have on a pair of fitted pants, oversized top, and a pair of heels. In the 90’s it was such a breath of fresh air because at the time many female rappers were just showing off all their skin.

Today’s ensemble is very much a part of me and it represents that other side of me that loves my hip hop roots. I call it my B-Side. Remember cassette tapes back in the day had the A and B side? The B-side was a completely different mix of songs from the A-side. That’s me. I like to look polished and classic but I also love to switch it up and get a little funky too. These camouflage skinny jeans are a perfect example of how I like to switch things up. Rocking a thick crew neck sweater with it and a thick gold chain link necklace adds a little hip hop flavor. While I will always love that polished side of me, I will always make sure I embrace the other side of me. The B-side.
